MS-Access: Need some help fixing problem with inserting records from a temporary table

I need assistance with this as soon as possible: PREMISE: I am working to allow the user to press a button to save records instead of auto-saving. However, when dealing with a parent/child, one-to-many relationship (subform within a form), you cannot easily disable auto-saving because there needs to be a record in the parent table in order to enter records into the child records. Therefore, I have setup temporary tables that are copies of my original parent/child tables. The form/subform auto-save data into these temporary tables. Then, when the user clicks the save button: (1) an INSERT INTO statement is performed to copy the parent record, (2) an INSERT INTO statement is performed to copy the child records, and (3) DELETE FROM statements are performed to clear the temporary tables. MY PROBLEM: When the child records are being inserted, I get the following error: "set 0 field(s) to Null due to a type conversion failure, and it didn't add 1 record(s) to the table due to key violations". It would seem to me that after the parent record is transferred, it is assigned a new Autonumber for the primary key. This is good, BUT, when the child record is transferred, it is not receiving this new Autonumber as it's primary/foreign key. I NEED HELP making a SQL statement (or something) that will make sure the new autonumber from the newly created parent record is the PK/FK in the attempted INSERT INTO for the child records.
