WIA Windows Image Acquisition Service won't start - Scanner won't scan - help?
I have an hp officejet 8500 wireless A909g printer with scanner, and its software won't install properly. This is because WIA which it relies on will not start and function properly. Evidence of this not being hp issue:
I also have paint program "from scanner or camera" is greyed out. I can't scan in paint either.
I spoke with an HP tech support highest Tier level.. who boiled it down by saying that "the scanning drivers built within windows are not working properly." He goes on to mention TWAIN_32 and C:\windows scan folder\twain_32, out of context, as a possible problem source.
I go into [login to view URL] and enabled all supporting dependencies DCOM, and RPC services which work with WIA Windows Acquisition Service. I was even able to enable service status: WIA which "SAYS" started, but when I refresh it it says stopped. All related services are set to automatic. In the recovery tab of WIA, all failure attempts are set to restart the service, and reset fail count after 1 days, and restart the service after 1 minute.
The error message I received in the beginning of all this was "windows could not start the Windows Image Acquisiton (WIA) service on local computer. Error 1068. The dependency service or group failed to start.
I ran in administrative cmd sfc /scannow. It said that windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details in CBS.log. windir\Logs\CBS\[login to view URL] eg.) C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.
There was ALOT of data in the log. Only one line had a reference to WIA.
I am running windows 7 64-bit. I also ran a registry cleaner fwiw.
I do not understand all the aspects of the WIA system, and am looking for someone with more experience in operating systems, to troubleshoot this issue and where it leads. Final resolution of this project would be to successfully install the HP software (which I've done 10 times already) and not have the HP uninstall itself because it can't install due to this WIA issue.
There can not be remote access to this computer for resolution. sorry.
