I have a desk-top application that was written in Java. I need it to be translated into an R package. R packages can be written in the R language, or R can call a compiled C or C++ program.
The program is faily simple. It scrapes data from Google Scholar to create a citation network (a map of how academic articles are related). The program starts with an input article and then builds a snowball sample (articles that cite the input article, articles that cite those articles, etc). The data is stored in a relational database.
The program currently uses Microsoft Access as the database, but I would like an open-source database so that the application is OS neutral. R is able to create and manipulate SQLite files. I am open to other options.
## Deliverables
[login to view URL] requirements notice: As originally posted, this bid request does not have complete details. Should a dispute arise and this project go into arbitration "as is", the contract's vagueness might cause it to be interpreted against you, even though you were acting in good-faith. So for your protection, if you are interested in this project, please work-out and document the requirements onsite.
I am attaching the original desktop application so that you can see it's functionality. The R package will be a stripped down version that will do the data collection. To see this function goto:
Network Files --> Generate New Network --> Citation Network.
Enter keywords, select candidate articles, select sampling parameters, then hit "search".
