My artistic mindset? Well, that depends. I believe in the value of art for art's sake but am also a strong advocate for what I like to call contextuality--that the meaning of the art and the value that can be derived from it depends on the context. The context (whether personal, public--or a combination of the two) is always in flux as well, however, which is why it can be so hard to articulate what role a particular piece or movement plays.
My mindset is obviously postmodern--yes--but there is one factor which always remains a constant. The human factor. Art is by humans and for humans. In this way, it tells us something about our humanity in a certain mimetic fashion. Perhaps a bit like Narcissus, the Greek legend, where beauty can be found in reflection, but the distinction between ourselves and this unreality needs to be maintained, taken care of, if we are not to fall in the water.
Something like that. Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to write something other than "In addition to PhD studies in English, I have been helping companies develop their brand identity through high quality content for over 15 years....blah blah blah" My bid is a little low, at $58 for 500 words, but as you are a new site and the tone sounds intriguing, I'd be eager to see if we can't make it work.
All the best,
Alex
