Is the AC signal sinusoidal-ish or more complex? What is the frequency range of the AC signal (e.g. 10Hz - 100Hz)? What is the peak to peak amplitude range of the AC signal (e.g. 10mv - 1V)? What is the maximum acceptable error (e.g. 0.1%, 1% etc)? What is the minimum RMS update rate that is acceptable (e.g. 0.1sec, 1sec, etc)? What is the ambient operating temperature range? Hello, My proposal is based on the popular MSP430 from Texas instruments. It is ultra low power and very cheap MCU. Your AC current is converted to the voltage by the 100 ohm resistors. I will add some op-amp stages for a little amplification, buffering and floating to single ended conversion. Then the voltage goes to ADC port of MSP430. I think 12 bit resolution will be more than enough for your work. The software must be written to calculate the true RMS in real-time. Here you need a little tradeoff between response time and accuracy (moving window). After calculating the RMS the data will go in real-time to I2C port. I believe MSP4302619 has all the requirements for your project. Anyway, I am a professional embedded system designer and can do your project as I briefly described above. Thanks.
