3D Virtual environment

I want to create a virtual 3D meeting place for a social networking community site I run. The virtual space is like SecondLife lite. The virtual space is to provide a meeting place for my members where they can interact in a more tactile way than simple text chatting. I'm thinking this can be done in Adobe Flash without being a true 3D environment - but instead leveraging perspective to create the illusion of 3D in the client. Ultimately, the software should run on any web capable computer without installation of additional software. If a compelling case can be made for a plug-in, I'll consider it. The server is a Windows 2003 application server running the .NET framework and has access to a dedicated Microsoft SQL Server 2005 machine. Obviously, pages and any services are provided through IIS. If you have questions about this, please do not hesitate to ask. Demonstrated ability with similar projects would be helpful. I understand this requirements list is a rough draft at best. I expect more detail will emerge through conversation, questions and answers. A programmer who can handle the graphic design elements of this project would be great, but not necessary. ## Deliverables **Basic Requirements:** * Users should be able to control some basic elements of their avatar such as shirt/pant/hair/skin color - bit-mapped clothing would be perfect. * User can explore a virtual world which can be updated by admins. * The "world" would be defined via XML (or similar) format providing "walls" for predefined "rooms". Each "wall" could be a link, an advertisement, or a standard texture (like brick wall, fence, window) * Walls that are ads, can be clicked on, zoomed in and explored. (See [login to view URL] for example of similar model) * Up to 10 rooms (more if it's not difficult) would exist and their layout can be standardized (for example if a room can have 150 walls, the room might be 50x26 (we need the extra segments to provide virtual access in and out of the room) A room of 50 walls, might be 13x13 * These rooms would be connected in a "mall" type atmosphere. * Another location is the "lounge" where they can "meet" other avatars. * A path to two other virtual worlds that would leverage the same platform to create the environment for two other communities. Same app, different "mall" interior * The lounge provides text based chat (if audio/video chat is possible, elaborate on it in your proposal - including any server software requirements) * Other interaction between avatars: chat (see last item), dance, drink, go to backroom, flash one another, play music (I'll provide MP3 songs), initiate a call (I'll provide tech. for this, a simple link from the 3D environment based on users) * Avatars exact location in "lounge" doesn't need to be tracked exactly - but should be realistic! In other words, the system can orchestrate movement based on the current activity of each avatar (selecting music puts them near the jukebox etc) and when avatars chat they should be nearby. * Text chat is one to one and can also be one to many (up to 7 avatars per conversation) * Existing user profiles can be leveraged in the virtual enviro. - login/logout information is retrieved from the server. * Profile data/name/avatar settings are pulled from the server. 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). ## Platform Windows 2003 .NET application server w/ Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Application should leverage only common browser plugins (Flash, Quicktime, Microsoft Media Player) and standard HTML/CSS/XML/JavaScript code. If additional OS level software is required (free or commercial, please let me know as part of your bid) Browsers may be restricted to only current generation IE + Firefox if needed.
