I need a small and simple image viewer in java. The features that I need are:
1) Should work with JRE 1.3.1xx and greater on WinXP.
2) The ability to set the background color.
3) Ability to set the size of the applet. When the image is loaded, it should fit the applet size automatically as good as possible while retaining aspect ratio.
4) Support for (at least) gif and jpeg.
5) Ability to zoom in and out and to pan (move) the image. Kind of like google maps work. Ideally, the buttons would be floating on top of the image (upper left corner).
6) Support for html hotspots (maps): a normal html image map could be embedded in the html file, and the image should be clickable according to the assigned map. I want to be able to specify a parameter with the name of the map. This should work even when the image has been zoomed in some way.
7) If possible, there shouldn't be a window asking the user for permission to run the applet or whatever (the image to be viewed will reside on the server, and will be specified with a paramenter or something like that, the user will not load the file manually at runtime).
Configuration should be as easy and simple as possible. The program should be very simple, with as little files as possible. if you can do this using just JavaScript/DHTML even better.
Here's an applet that works more or less like what I need but not exactly:
