Convert XML import to a sql database

Hi, I have worked with SQL Server since 7.0. I was active on community websites [login to view URL], [login to view URL] and also [login to view URL] On that last website, I was Expert of the Year 2010 (overall) for exemplary contribution to mostly SQL Server problems. I also hold a day job as part DBA, part Software Architect team lead. Now my questions - what was your previous attempt done in? Which edition of SQL Server is this - is it enterprise with integration tools (SSIS)? If not SSIS, then we can use a custom program such as a Powershell script. Do you have a sample XML file for me to look at and a schema of the destination table? Regards.. Richard

I have lots of experience doing this type of import/conversion work. I'm sorry to hear that you had a failed attempt previously. I do have a couple of questions for you: 1. What database engine are you using? MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, etc? 2. What language would you like the import process written in? 3. Can you tell me where the XML file comes from? This doesn't matter for purposes of my bid, I'm just curious. Ideally, I'd like to start with a copy of the database as you generated it by hand from the XML file. That way I can make sure my import process generates identical results, or at least go over any discrepancies with you and make sure they're what you expect. Also, I note that while I do ask that you create the milestone payment before I begin work, I definitely don't ask that you release it I've delivered the code and you're completely satisfied. This can be done using the SSIS which will basically import the xml file into a temp table and then do the transformations on it to provide correct data which can be then imported into a main table . This can be run as a job which runs every n hours or but creating a job which will basically look for the file every 5-10 mins if it finds the file import is done else the job will not continue further

Hi, This is not a complicated doable project. However, why do you want to create multiple columns instead of multiple rows on a related table? Can I know how this is the data being consumed so I can provide you a better solution? Multiple column really violates a lot of data modelling designs. Looking forward hearing from you

The task description is lacking detail, so is there any way you can send a set of three things: one of those XML source files(one that had already been manually processed, so it can be used for cross-referencing against the CSV), the CSV that was produced out of this exact XML file and the database shema where the CSV is headed towards, so I can do some proper assessment of the job laying ahead? However, I see that you mentioned testing and this is exactly the reason that significantly expands the time required for this and the price. Then again, the price I offered includes this testing as well.
