This is a non-profit artists' organization seeking to expand our website by posting our Guide to Print Workshops online. The website was created for us by a volunteer using DreamWeaver, so any new pages must be compatible with that program. And we want to keep our over-all design, which you can see at www.PrintAlliance.org. Our webmaster can create a new page on the site that is available only to people who have a subscriber's password; they would go to the "Library" section called "Classes and Workshops" and find a place to enter their ID and password. However, we still need a way to protect the content/information from being downloaded by those users. And we don't want people to be able to get to a "protected" page through a web search that goes around the page where they would enter their password.
Our last printed Guide included about 500 workshops, each entry with an average of 10-15 types of info (address, types of printmaking, do they offer classes, etc.). For those workshops that want to pay us a small fee, we need to add a small chop mark (a simple b&w logo) that users can click on to open a new window to the workshop's website. Probably only 25-50 will do that this first time.
I can provide the information in a text format or a database (I have Excel). After you post the Guide this first time, it should be easy for me or another volunteer to update in the future, both editing information that is there and adding a new entry. We are getting a donated copy of a program called Contribute; ideally, I could use it for any editing and additions to this new section too.
Users should be able to find a workshop by browsing two lists: 1. Workshop name alphabet = click on the letter and see the list of names of workshops that start with that letter, click on the workshop to see the entry. 2. Location list = U.S. states and Canadian provinces (a few large groups may work better if broken down, e.g. New York City separated from the rest of New York, Boston separated from the rest of Massachusetts). If they pick a state or province with many entries, they should see no more than 8 at a time, then have to go to the next page. I'd like people to be able to print the one page they are viewing, but have to do something that is hard to automate to go to the next page. They should not be able to download the information into a digital file.
I am not a web expert and probably do not know enough to give all the project information, so please do not hesitate to ask questions. I expect that we will have to buy some kind of content protection software, but we may be able to buy it at a discount (because we are a non-profit) if we know what to ask for. I expect that $150 to $300 of the budget will have to be spent on this program -- but I think we need to own a copy of the program. and it definitely must be better than a simple shareware program to disable the right-button on a mouse.
I'd like to find a protection program and a programmer to set up the project in about 4-6 weeks. Then I can send an up-date-your-data form to the workshops, give them 4-6 weeks to respond, and be ready to post the project during the summer.
