Create Child Theme for WordPress Site

I need to have a child theme created for my news website, discovermuscatine.com. It uses the Newspaper theme from TagDiv. I have several things I need to have happen in the child theme, but primarily support the custom post types I use better and look better. The theme does have the ability, in standard posts, to create custom post layouts in Composer and assign to categories or individual posts; however, it doesn't work with custom post types. Essentially, I think we will need to copy and customize the single post template for these plugins. I did buy Child Theme Configurator Pro, but couldn't get it to work the way I wanted.
