For this project, the parameter that I want to determine is the steady state Heat Release Rate (HRR) as a function of measured hot gas layer (HGL) temperature data. In other words, I want to invert for the probability distribution of the HRR parameter that result in the steady state HGL temperature data. Measured HGL temperatures from Steckler compartment fire tests will be used [The Reference is: Flow Induced by Fire in a Compartment]. In those tests, the HRR from a methane burner in a compartment was reported as 62.9 kW, and various ventilation configurations were used. Assuming that we have no knowledge about the true experimental HRR, and we want to determine the most likely HRR in the compartment that resulted in the measured hot gas layer (HGL) temperature data. The measured temperature data could be used as an input to an inversion procedure to determine the most likely HRR. The focus of this project is to develop accurate method to compute HRR data using measured temperature data in the compartment. In this project, in order to solve the inverse problem, the optimization algorithm in Ansys software (DesignXplorer) needed to be coupled with AnsysFluent and also creating an Ansys command input file as a batch file to perform automatic simulations of Fluent to search and discover optimal HRR candidate. Experimental temperature data can be supplied and any required details can be discussed over chat.
