I own international patents on a process for leak detection in pressurized systems. The gold standard is to use helium (1%) mixed with nitrogen (99%). The system is purged with this mixture after each connection (threaded, flanged) is taped with a sturdy pvc tape. Once it has reached the test pressure, each connection has a hole poked in the tape and it is "sniffed" with an instrument; if its senses helium, you've got a leak. If not, you're good to go.
